The Road To My First Book

By Melody Anne

What an honor to be asked to join in this posting with such amazing authors. I’m pretty new to the publishing world – my first book,The Billionaire Wins the Game, was published in August of 2011. I can’t believe how quickly a year and a half has gone by.

The biggest question I get asked is, “How do you manage your time?” Honestly, I don’t. I work from the time I wake up until the time I go to sleep. The nice thing of being an author is that if I need to take a day off to be with my kids or other family members, then I can, but I don’t do that often. I write every single day, and I spend hours checking email, Facebook, twitter, and many other places.

Why do I do all of this myself instead of hiring it out? The main reason is that I LOVE my fans. I adore each and every one of them. I know that I won’t have this amazing career without fans, and I want them to feel appreciated. The most difficult thing of talking with so many people on a daily or weekly basis is that I tend to get attached. The reality is that I work hard, and any free time I have left is for my family so I try to remember that, but still, I get attached.

I truly look forward to meeting some of the amazing women (and a few men, too) in the near future when I do book signings and start tours. I’ve had the great pleasure of meeting some incredibly talented author’s, Ruth Cardello, Annette Blaire, Sandra Marton, Belle Andre, Mary Campisi, and too many to name them all. These women inspire me and motivate me. I can’t wait until we meet in person, which we’re in plans for now.

I’ve also had the pleasure of meeting other authors who, like me, have started recently and we bounce ideas off each other and sometimes just lend an ear. Terri Marie is very talented. Her book, Running from Beige had me in tears. I was beyond impressed. Another favorite is Randy Mixter, who wrote Sarah of theMoon. I couldn’t put it down.

I think what keeps me motivated is, I develop a relationship with my characters. I get to know them, love them, and want success for them. The hardest time I have in writing is when I don’t like someone I created. I’ve had that happen a couple times, and have to put the book away and work on something else.

I’ve been humbled and awed by the reaction I’ve received to the Andersons. They’ll forever be my favorite fictional heroes as they are my first. My new book, The Tycoon’s Secret released on December 15th, and I can’t wait. It’s been another fun adventure for me to go on.

Per her website, Melody Anne is currently working on her final book in her romance series "Billionaire Bachelors". Also in the works is the 3rd book to her young adult series Midnight Storm - Rise of the Dark Angel.  Writing young adult fiction has been a fun diversion from her romance genre, as she also has a great love for books such as The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Twilight, etc. Melody Anne reads even more than she writes. Upon searching for her, her children will find her either reading a book, writing a book or spending time with family members and that includes the dogs, of course. With a strong "family first" set of values, Melody Anne is elated to have a career as an author, and works from home. www.melodyanne.com
