Book Covers and Titles~A Fun Questionnaire

Since it is Friday, and we have a weekend coming up, we thought it might be fun to choose at random a few books and do a questionnaire based on the book covers and titles.

As authors we all know the importance of choosing a great cover and title to draw the reader to our books.

To see them more about them you can click and it will take you to Amazon.com books.

Here are some fun questions for you to answer based on the books below.

The first row contain books 1 through 4

The second row contain books 5 through 8

Which cover grabs your eye first?

Which title grabs your eye first?

Do you feel the title suits the picture?

If you were going to read this genre, which book would you choose first?

Have Fun

  1. What a fun post today! Here are my reactions:

Which cover grabs your eye first?

Danielle Steel's Complications grabbed my attention first. I believe the pop of color drew my eye to it.

Which title grabs your eye first?

Blue Hollow because it is larger than the others, above "the fold" and the colors of the title and background set it off.

Do you feel the title suits the picture?

Not really - Blue Hollow is such an obscure title, I don't know how you would depict it in the picture.

If you were going to read this genre, which book would you choose first?

Interestingly, I'd go with Karen McQuestion's Dovetail. Simply looking at the pictures and titles, that one draws me in with the story it could possibly tell.

I guess it goes to show, the first to draw the eye isn't always the one that ultimately captures the reader!

    1. Thanks Trish. This is a fun exercise. Thanks for your participating. I thought it interesting the one we choose is not always the one that grabs the eye first.

I agree about the title Blue Hollow, due to the size and the color surrounding does grab attention.

  2. Danielle Steel's Neighbors grabs my eye first.

How to Raise an Elephant grabs my attention for title.

The title suits the cover, but when reading the back cover copy, it isn't clear how it suits the story. That puts me off a little.

I would go with Neighbors, because it intrigues me. It has some mystery in the title.

    1. Hi Ane, thank you for participating today. Isn't it funny the different colors and titles and how they work in drawing our attentiton?

When I first saw Neighbors, it intrigued me too. I wondered what story would unfold.

  3. What a fun way to end the week! Here are my responses:

Which cover grabs your eye first? "How to Raise an Elephant" My eye immediately went to that cover when I looked at all of them.

Which title grabs your eye first? "Blue Hollow" It stands out on the cover.

Do you feel the title suits the picture? I don't see a connection between the title Blue Hollow and the picture.

If you were going to read this genre, which book would you choose first? I briefly read the blurbs on Amazon for each of the books. I liked the description of "Dovetail," but I'm reading a book now that's very similar, so I'd probably go with "How to Raise an Elephant." It sounds completely different from anything else I've read.

  4. Good choice Kay. Thank you for joining us today and participating in our covers and titles display.

Isn't it funny, a title can grab us, but somehow the cover does not suit the title. I wondered why they did not leave the girl off.

How to Raise an Elephant does get my attention . . .wondering what the book is really about.

  5. Which cover grabs your eye first? I'm going with #5 Danielle Steel, Neighbors.

Which title grabs your eye first? I'm sticking with #5

Do you feel the title suits the picture? Yes, it's inquisitive. The building behind the gate reminded me of a keyhole. I thought of another book called The Gospel comes with a housekey.

If you were going to read this genre, which book would you choose first? #5 I'm not a reader, but I would listen to the audiobook if she had one.

  6. Thank you for your comment. Interesting cover and title I agree.
You are right, it sort of does look like a key hole. Funny I had not noticed that before you mentioned it.

  7. Fun post!
Which cover grabs your eye first? The one with the elephant.

Which title grabs your eye first? Same.

Do you feel the title suits the picture? Yes, but it doesn't fit the back cover copy.

If you were going to read this genre, which book would you choose first?
JA Jance's Missing and Endangered. I like anything by her. :-)

  8. Hi Patricia, thanks for participating. I thought this was fun too! I have wondered if what draws us to the elephant is the fact we like elephants. There is something about an elephant that draws us to them.

I noticed the back cover copy did not fit the title either. It is best if everything flows together. Thanks again.
