When You Have Peas, Make Split Pea Soup

by Shannon Miholland, Social Media Director

There once was a fair maiden tortured each night by a single pea placed under her mattress. Like any girl, I appreciate a good fairy tale but this one was just too far-fetched to appeal to me. I wonder though if we sometimes allow our attitude toward Social Media to become little peas that impede our success as an author.

Facebook is too hard to use. They change their format and options too often.

I'm too busy to use social media.

I'd rather put my time into writing than building a platform. If Stephen King can do it, so can I.

Why would I want to connect with total strangers?

Twitter is too limiting. Who can say anything substantive in 160 characters or less?

Night after night the maiden failed to get sleep. Like her, day after day we can stifle our results. Or we can take the peas out from under our mattress. Take an honest look at them and realize we're letting such a small thing keep us from big results.

When you have peas, make split pea soup instead!
